Unlocking the Power of SEO: What You Need to Know

Have you ever Googled a question or a service you needed and wondered how a particular website got to the top? There's a magic tool that website developers and copywriters use called "SEO," which stands for Search Engine Optimization.

SEO helps improve your website's visibility on search engine platforms like Google, Bing, and others. The more visible your site is, the easier it can be found with specific search keywords.

How does SEO work?

When you type in the search bar "farm store," for example, Google uses robots to review hundreds of thousands of pages online, quickly analyzing each site and looking for indicators on websites. These robots review text, images, videos, and more to gather intel about the information on the page. When they find the information that matches the search criteria, it adds that website to the results list.

Why is SEO so important?

Having good SEO means that your website is seen by more people, leading to more sales or clients. The Digital Marketing Institute claims the #1 spot on a Google search gets nearly 32% of clicks. Moving up just one spot in search results can increase Click Through Rates by an impressive 30.8%.

What exactly goes into SEO?

Great question! Many factors go into increasing SEO.

1. Keywords. Keywords are phrases or words that prospects use to find content on the internet. Back to our first example of the "Farm Store." If you owned this type of business, you'd want somewhere on your page to use those words and reference other related keywords, such as "Farm supplies" or "Feed Store" if you sold livestock feed.

2. Content. This includes adding web pages and blog posts, updating your social media pages, and so much more. Photos, videos, infographics, and podcasts are great multimedia tools for increasing your SEO.

3.Off-Page SEO. This includes sponsored blog posts from local influencers, creating infographics that get highly shared, and more.

4. Local SEO. Including geography on your site is important, especially if you offer a service. "Farm Store Near Columbus, OH" would be a great example of a local search. This is where a Google Business Profile is also important (more on that later this year!)
